Saturdays are a strength day for me. I do three 10-minute routines that target upper body, core/abs and a leg workout that mostly targets glutes (my retirement plan is ass cheeks that can crush coal into diamonds). I’ve gotten good definition in all those areas (except my belly which has residual flab over it from before I lost 55 pounds), but they are static exercises and I like movement.

I added a bit of HIIT today, 10 minutes of cardio kickboxing in Tabata format (20 on/10 off). I first did this workout a few months ago when Planet Fitness was closed to shake things up. It’s not anything terribly crazy.

Garmin says my average heart rate was 128 with a max of 165. Tabata is about spurts of very intense exercise, so it’s probably right. 165 is also my max heart rate. Anything above that, I might be moving into heart attack territory. Anyway, there were six minutes of moderate activity and six minutes of vigorous. The extra two minutes was the two minutes gap between the start of this video and the end of my glutes routine. The last glutes exercise is glute bridges, which target the muscles that I’ll need to squeeze coal into sweet, sweet retirement cash.
